SANA AND THERESE

Sana Duggal

My name is Sana Duggal, and I was born in India, and brought up in Dar-es- salaam, Tanzania. Having lived in Tanzania for 13 years, I have witnessed the hardships that the locals face with regard to getting a good education. Even though I moved to Dubai, I still want the best for the girls back in Tanzania.

Having visited the Bethsaida School for Orphan Girls, I've witnessed how these girls aspire to be: doctors, lawyers and accountants, for example; all careers that require a formidable university level education which would give them the knowledge and hands on experience to achieve their dreams.  The girls are putting in their best into their NGO provided secondary education, and are deserving of our support to go even further.

This project sprung from the fact that I am extremely grateful to my family for supporting and providing me with an education and I understand how difficult it would be for me without them. I believe that all girls, no matter what background we come from should be given the opportunity to be educated, and that is why I will give it my all to make sure that as many of these orphan girls as possible, can fulfill their dreams.

Therese McHugh

My Name is Therese McHugh, I am from Papua New Guinea and Australia. I have lived in dubai for roughly 8 years and am currently in my final year of school. When Sana introduced me to the Bethsaida school for orphan girls I was very interested in learning more about their situation and how i could help.

I learnt that many Tanzanian girls get a free primary education thanks to the government for public schools (that in themselves are not of an extremely high calibre), and those who are lucky get a chance to experience secondary school. However, very few of all the female students go on for a post secondary level of education, instead they take on household labour to help their family and some even head off to work for expatriates as maids or cooks for a very small income.

I have been fortunate enough to receive an education and i don't take that for granted. Learning about the aspirations and similar ambitions that these girls share with me through their letters has motivated me to help. I have been given the opportunities and helped through my education and i believe that these girls, girls who have showed their desire to learn and achieve, should be given the opportunity to do so.
